Documentation review

Microsoft documents Purview data security and compliance protections for Microsoft 365 Copilot and other generative AI applications. The page is maintained documentation. Its original publication date was not confirmed, so this is an October 2026 review rather than a historical product announcement.

Choose one information flow

Take a specific workflow, such as drafting a customer proposal, and identify the sensitive information it uses. Record where the input lives, who may access it, and where the output is saved. This makes the policy discussion concrete enough for a data owner to evaluate.

Test what the user experiences

Use approved test information and verify the expected outcome with the controls available in your licensed environment. Capture both the user experience and the evidence available to the security team. Do not assume a policy name proves that a particular application path is covered.

Give exceptions an owner

If the business needs a different workflow, document the decision, the compensating steps, and the review date. The goal is a usable process with an understood data boundary. Revisit the source documentation before implementation because coverage and requirements can change.
